If you’re already working within fire safety or building compliance, you may be wondering whether stepping up to the FireQual Level 4 Certificate in Intermediate Fire Risk Assessment is the right move for your career. This qualification is designed for professionals who are ready to deepen their competence, take on more responsibility, and confidently assess moderate‑risk buildings, but is it the right fit for your current level and future goals?
Let’s break it down so you can make an informed decision.
What Level Is This Qualification?
The FireQual Level 4 Certificate is a nationally recognised intermediate qualification, accredited by:
- Ofqual – RQF Level 4 (Qualification Number: 610/6275/3)
- SQA Accreditation – SCQF Level 7 (Qualification Number: R915 04)
Both versions share the same content, learning outcomes and assessments, and are fully recognised across the UK.
If you’re aiming to demonstrate competence beyond foundation level, but not yet at advanced practitioner level, this qualification sits exactly in that middle ground.
Who Is This Qualification Designed For?
You’re likely a great fit for Level 4 if any of the following apply to you:
- You’ve already completed the FireQual Level 3 Foundation Fire Risk Assessment or an equivalent qualification.
- You’re a practising Fire Risk Assessor looking to formalise your competence at an intermediate level.
- You work on behalf of Responsible Persons or Duty Holders in moderate‑risk premises.
- You’re in facilities management, building safety, enforcement or consultancy and need to carry out FRAs with greater depth and confidence.
- You’re progressing your fire safety career and want a qualification that reflects your growing responsibilities.
If you’re already undertaking FRAs and want to strengthen your knowledge, credibility and professional standing, Level 4 is a natural next step.
What Will You Be Able to Do at Level 4?
This qualification prepares you to competently assess moderate‑risk buildings, giving you the skills to:
- Apply fire safety principles when analysing information for FRAs.
- Interpret and apply legislation, standards and codes of practice.
- Evaluate fire safety measures and understand their limitations.
- Assess how building design, construction and maintenance affect fire behaviour.
- Review fire safety management systems and provide informed recommendations.
If you’re ready to move beyond basic assessments and handle more complex premises, Level 4 gives you the competence and confidence to do so.
