Tell us a bit about ADL Health & Safety and what you do.
We provide fire and general risk assessments and consultancy, also various training courses including fire door inspection training and IOSH courses.

What makes your ADL Health & Safety team so successful?
The team consists of associate trainers and assessors all of whom have a fire service background. All were also senior officers and have a wealth of training and assessment as well as other skills and experience.
What is your favourite hobby/activity outside of work?
I like to go to the gym most days of the week and I also enjoy outdoor walking and running.
Where is your favourite holiday destination?
Mexico in the winter and Cyprus in the summer!
What is your favourite food?
I love my food and enjoy all sorts but I would probably say Indian and Thai, I love to cook too and you cant beat a Sunday dinner!
What is your favourite sport to play or watch?
I’m a Liverpool fan and enjoy watching the football (but not all the time this season!).
Tell us about the experience you have in the industry.
I was a Fire Service trainer and assessor of many courses and later furthered that with USAR (Urban Search And Rescue) experience including deployments around the country and a trip to Texas! I also worked in several departments as a senior officer. After retirement from the service, I have worked in HnS and fire and now I have 3 diplomas to back that up too.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Pursue further education such as diplomas earlier.
What do you enjoy most about delivering training courses?
The interaction with delegates, telling some relevant stories from past experience, having a laugh and getting them a pass!
What is the favourite training that you have ever taken part in yourself?
I would say recruit firefighter training, it covers all aspects of firefighting and gets the recruits ready for operational duties and, most importantly, keeps them safe while they get the experience.
Who would your 5 fantasy dinner party guests be, dead or alive?
The Beatles and Freddie Mercury.
Why should someone sign up to one of your training sessions?
The feedback is always brilliant, the delegates get trained by extremely experienced trainers who can also promise good stories and a few laughs… training should not be boring!
